Case Study
Cox and Plant Ltd employs 19 people in Lye, West Midlands, manufacturing and distributing vibratory conveyors for the food processing industry.
As a small business, employees need to be versatile and able to turn their hands to a variety of roles to suit demand so the company took advantage of funded training from learndirect and Business Advantage
to develop new skills within the business. Financial Director Judi Cox explains:
"At Cox and Plant, we all have to wear lots of hats and we were looking for a training programme that would develop our staff and help the company at the same time."
"With learndirect and Business Advantage, staff can learn at work or at home, fitting in around their other responsibilities. We don't have to give staff day release to study. At quiet times, they can get on with their courses online. If we get busy, they just put it down and pick it up later."
" There's a huge range of courses to choose from - minutes at meetings, behaviour in meetings, problem solving and so on. Some of our staff have followed a single course and others are working towards a formal qualification."
"The training has most definitely added value to our company without interfering with the day-to- day running of our business. Our staff are now able to respond a lot better in different situations and cope with anything that's thrown at them."
"Having seen the benefits of training for myself, I'm now even more committed to developing our staff. I'd recommend it to other West Midlands businesses and advise them to take advantage of this opportunity to train their staff for less!"
