Poor skills levels pose a threat to the UK 's ability to compete effectively with other economies, and those concerned with social justice highlight the direct link between skills and life opportunities. Ufi is the organisation behind learndirect, which has a unique role in the delivery of the government's post-19 skills agenda. Through its three nationally branded services for the development of skills - learndirect careers advice, learndirect business and learndirect skills &qualifications - Ufi is using technology to transform the way that individuals, communities and businesses acquire new skills. In just five years, learndirect has individualised the delivery of learning and learning advice to a mass audience through a unique combination of flexibility, accessibility, support for learners and brand presence.
The Ufi Board is seeking two new Non-Executive Directors: one with recent Whitehall experience particularly around working with those government departments with a post 16 interest; and one with experience and expertise of Small and Medium sized Enterprises .
Potential candidates will have - prior experience at board level; an interest in education policy and a commitment to equality and diversity.
You will be able to make a positive contribution as the organisation evolves to meet changing educational and training needs.
Your role will be to inform the strategic direction of Ufi, contribute to board and sub committee meetings and represent Ufi to external organisations and to the public.
The Board meets five times a year, usually in London . The time commitment will be approximately 10 days per annum and expenses will be paid.
