Sal Brinton

Sal Brinton Dr Sal Brinton is the Executive Director of the Association of Universities in the East of England. Prior to this appointment, she was an associate consultant at the local government Improvement and Development Agency, and a professional training consultant.

Sal Brinton was Chair of the Learning and Skills Council for Cambridgeshire from 2000-2006, and Deputy Chair of the East of England Development Agency until 2004. She was awarded an Honorary PhD by Anglia Polytechnic University in 2003 for her contribution and services to education, learning and skills.

She was Bursar first at Lucy Cavendish College (1992 - 1997) which specialises in offering places to mature women students (both undergraduate and graduate) and then at Selwyn College, Cambridge from 1997 to 2002. In 1997 Sal won the East of England Entrepreneurial Businesswoman of the Year award.

Sal trained at the Central School of Speech and Drama as a stage manager and worked at the BBC (including for Jonathan Miller on the Shakespeare canon) before winning a place as a mature student at Churchill College , Cambridge in 1981 where she read English.
