Improving skills, creating potential

Value of Learning

As spring arrives, it’s time to plant seeds for success

March is a crucial month for FE providers as enquiries for courses starting in September begin to come in. Therefore the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) will be launching another phase of its already successful Value of Learning campaign to accompany this surge in interest. Adverts on regional radio and in national press will run from 18 th February to 16 th March 2008 , and will be accompanied by a campaign toolkit for FE providers to support your marketing operations.

The first burst of the campaign produced an impressive boost in awareness and appreciation for investing in learning and skills. When asked about preferred ways to spend free time in July 2007, 43% replied that they preferred “learning new skills/bettering their skills”, with this number rising to 49% in December 2007. More marked success was apparent when asked about preferred ways to spend money with preference for “learning better skills/bettering education” rising from 30% in July 2007 to 40% in December 2007. This is a formidable base to build on as together we champion the message that investing time and money in your own learning has tangible, financial rewards.

The LSC has developed a Value of Learning Toolkit to support your efforts to encourage learners to invest their time and own money in further learning. This resource will be available on the Campaign Resource Site. Here you will find imagery, copy of the press ad, Q & As, killer facts, a template press release and more! This pack will also be sent out in hard copy to all FE providers.
