Sgiliau sy'n gweithio i Gymru

Nod Sgiliau sy'n Gweithio i Gymru, sef strategaeth sgiliau a chyflogaeth Llywodraeth Cynulliad Cymru, yw gwella sgiliau lefel uwch a mynd i'r afael ag anghenion busnesau Cymru. Mae'r rhain yn heriau mawr. Gwyddom y canlynol am Gymru:

  • mae angen gwella sgiliau ar bob lefel er mwyn gwella'r economi;
  • mae angen gwella sgiliau gweithwyr ac unigolion;
  • mae gan nifer fawr o bobl sgiliau llythrennedd neu rifedd gwael;
  • mae cyflogwyr yn dweud nad yw'r system addysg a hyfforddiant yn ymateb i'w hanghenion; ac
  • mae nifer fawr o bobl ifanc nad ydynt mewn addysg, hyfforddiant na chyflogaeth.

Mae'r amgylchedd lle rydym yn byw a gweithio wedi newid. Rhaid cydnabod y newidiadau hyn wrth ymateb i heriau sgiliau a chyflogaeth. Mae angen cymorth arnom ni fel unigolion a fydd yn hyrwyddo ein llwyddiannau dysgu unigol, ac rydym yn chwilio am ddull a fydd yn ymateb i'n hanghenion a'n disgwyliadau unigol. Rhaid i ddarparwyr ymateb yn well i'n gofynion personol ac ail-ystyried a yw'r cyrsiau maen nhw'n eu cynnig yn addas i anghenion yr unigolion, y cyflogwyr a'r economi yn gyffredinol.

Mae Ufi Cymru wedi bod yn gweithio i wella sgiliau a chefnogi'r gwaith o bersonoli'r cwricwlwm ers blynyddoedd lawer. Ers eu rhoi ar waith fesul cam, mae mwy na 125,000 o ddysgwyr wedi cofrestru ar dros 250,000 o gyrsiau learndirect yng Nghymru. Nawr, wrth ganolbwyntio'n fanylach ar ddatblygu sgiliau sylfaenol a sgiliau cyflogadwyedd, byddwn yn sicrhau ein bod yn canolbwyntio ar gyrraedd yr unigolion a'r cyflogwyrhynny sydd angen ein gwasanaethau fwyaf. Seilir rhwydwaith learndirect ar y sector addysg bellach ac mae ganddo rôl bwysig iawn wrth geisio llenwi'r bwlch sgiliau trwy gynnig atebion wedi'u personoli mewn union bryd i ddiwallu anghenion cyflogwyr ac unigolion ledled Cymru.

Skills that work for Wales

The Welsh Assembly Government's skills and employment strategy, Skills that Work for Wales sets out to drive up higher level skills and address the needs of businesses in Wales. The challenges are significant. We know that in Wales:

  • we must improve our skills base at all levels to improve the economy;
  • we must up-skill employees and individuals;
  • there are large numbers of people who have poor literacy or numeracy skills;
  • employers do not find the educational and training system responsive to their needs; and
  • there are large numbers of young people and adults who are not in education, training or employment.

The environment in which we live and work has changed. The response to the skills and employment challenges has to recognise these changes. As individuals we require support that will promote our individual learning success and we are asking for solutions to address our individual needs and expectations. Providers must become more responsive to this personalised demand and re-examine whether the courses they are offering really are appropriate to the needs of individuals, employers and the economy in general.

Ufi Cymru has always been in the business of improving skills and supporting this personalisation of the curriculum. Since rollout, more than 125,000 learners have enrolled on more than 250,000 learndirect courses in Wales. Now, with a tighter focus on developing basic skills and skills for employability, we will ensure we concentrate on reaching those individuals and employers who have the greatest need for our services. The learndirect network, is based around the further education sector has a significant role to play in plugging the skills gap by providing just in time personalised solutions that meet the needs of individuals and employers throughout Wales.
