Where Did the River Go? By Peter Corey, Illustrated by Charlotte Firmin

Story time is an integral and magical part of childhood. It helps children learn, as well as strengthening family bonds. But for a significant number of people this can become a struggle as their child progresses.

Research by learndirect reveals that one in ten parents are struggling to understand books they read to their children. Together with this, one in five parents also admit to finding English tasks a challenge. They confess to making up words, changing the story or getting their children to read the passages they find tricky.

Maths problems cause even more grief amongst parents, with one in three reporting difficulties when helping their children with their homework. Unsurprisingly fractions and percentages were the cause of most stress. The `Where did the River Go?` storybook has been written to be fun to read first and foremost but it also offers adults an opportunity to think about how they can improve their maths and English if they need to.
