Welsh winners celebrate their triumph

Four Welsh learners, a business and a learndirect tutor are celebrating their success after becoming winners at Wales' 2007 learndirect Achievement Awards Ceremony.

Wales' first learndirect Achievement Awards recognised individuals and businesses who go that extra mile to develop and improve their own skills or that of their workforce. The Awards also highlighted the fantastic work learndirect learning centres and centre staff do within their local communities, engaging and supporting learners to fulfil their potential.

Charles Constable from Monmouth won the Learning for Employment Award; Debra Sambrook from Wrexham won the Individual Progression Award; Peter Hope from Pontypridd won the Individual Learning at Work Award; Christine Banks from Neath won the Outstanding Learner Award; Airbus UK based in Flintshire won the Company Award; Janice Osman who is a learndirect tutor at Coleg Pontardawe won the Centre Staff Award.

Minister for Education, Lifelong Learning and Skills, Jane Hutt said: "As Education Minister I am only too aware of the critical importance of skills and development not only from an economic perspective, but also for our own individual motivation and fulfilment."

"These first ever learndirect Achievement Awards are a celebration of learning, recognising the achievements of people learning with learndirect, businesses training with learndirect, and the centres supporting them. I congratulate all the winners on their success."
